ALUMNI GAMES, SPORTS HALL OF FAME SET FOR FEB. 16, 17

            The rescheduled alumni basketball games and Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will take place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16 and 17.

The alumni basketball event opens at 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 in Percefull Fieldhouse with registration for participants. The Rowdy Rangers support group also will begin serving free hotdogs to the first 300 spectators.  Admission to the games is free.

The women’s game will begin at 6 p.m. and the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. Former and current Ranger cheerleaders and band members will join in the fun. Rowdy, the athletics mascot, is scheduled to be on hand, as well. Each participant will receive a free 2007 alumni basketball T-shirt and a goody bag.

The 2007 class of the Sports Hall of Fame includes Dennis Rountree of Broken Arrow, Robert “Bob” Drake of Woodward and Craig Chestnut of Mustang.

            The trio will be honored at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, and at halftime of the Ranger men’s basketball game with Lubbock Christian University that afternoon. The women’s game will tip off at 2 p.m. and the men’s game at 4 p.m.

            The luncheon is open to the public, but reservations are required. The cost is $15 per person and reservations need to be made with the Alumni Association Office, (580) 327-8593, no later than Tuesday, Feb. 13. The event will be held in the Student Center Ballroom.

            The induction ceremony at Percefull Fieldhouse will include introduction of current members of the Hall of Fame, as well as the 2006-07 recipient of the Hall of Fame Scholarship and the recipient of the Dr. Yvonne Carmichael Faculty Enhancement Award.

            A former football player, Rountree is a 1951 Northwestern graduate and a retired teacher and coach. Drake played basketball and is a December 1969 graduate. He is owner of R B & J Materials and IST (International Separation Technologies), a research company for precious metals. Chestnut, a 1994 graduate, is now assistant principal at Mustang North Middle School. He also is a former Ranger football player.
