SINGATHON TO TAKE PLACE AT WAL-MART

The Studio Singers from Northwestern Oklahoma State University will be singing in front of the Alva Wal-Mart Supercenter from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, as a fund-raiser for the group.

Singers participating in Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Singathon in front of the Alva Wal-Mart Supercenter on Saturday will be (from left) Jillian Bartow, Kari Jantz, Bryan Pope, Emmy Irving, Ja’Kee Rivers, Suzy Herber and Adam Treeman. The event is a fundraiser for the Studio Singers.

Included in their repertoire for the Singathon will be swing and jazz favorites such as “That Old Black Magic,” “It’s a Wonderful World” and “I Did It My Way.”

Singers for the event include Jillian Bartow, Laverne; Emmy Irving, Mutual; Bryan Pope, Laverne; Suzy Herber, Shattuck; Kari Jantz, Cherokee; Ja’Kee Rivers, Midwest City, and Adam Treeman, Enid.

“Every dollar donated equals $2, and every $10 becomes $20, thanks to the generous matching grants of the Wal-Mart Community Involvement Program,“ said Dr. Aija Shrader, assistant professor of music and coordinator of the event.

“To purchase music, door prizes, refreshments, background CDs or hire a master clinician to prepare our students for competitions and performances, we have to become creative in our financing,” Shrader said.

The Studio Singers present the annual Evening of Song Series and the Swing Cabaret. They also have been state and regional winners in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) collegiate competitions and are the main pool of talent for the opera workshop productions.
