ART SOCIETY ASKING FOR RUMMAGE SALE ITEMS FOR BENEFIT SALE

Anyone needing to clear out a few things from their homes will have the opportunity this weekend to donate those items to a good cause.

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Arts Society (NAS) and friends will be having a benefit rummage sale inside the Baptist Student Union (BSU) Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will go to the family of Travis and Charity Lyon to help defray the medical costs incurred by their young daughter Liberty’s open heart surgery and other medical issues.

NAS sponsor Angelia Case welcomes anyone to donate their rummage sale-type items to the cause. Those items may be taken to the BSU, across highway 281 just east of the Northwestern campus, after 1 p.m. Friday. She also welcomes people to bring baked items to be sold at the sale.

“From reports at the beginning of the week, this area may see more of the winter time weather than we’ve had for awhile,” Case said. “I just want everyone to know that this sale is going to be inside where it’s warm, so please come.”

In case all rummage sale items are not sold the day of the sale, the art group is looking at various locations to be able to donate the materials. Case said that she also encourages individuals to check back at the BSU after the close of the sale to possibly pick up any of their items that did not sell.

“I hope we’re able to sell everything Saturday, but just in case we don’t, we don’t have anywhere to store the items that may be left over,” Case said. “We’re looking into taking items to two or three different places after the sale, but we may need those who donated items, especially large items, to check back with us after the sale just in case some items still remain.”

NAS members also have provided many baked items at a number of basketball games this season. Their fundraising efforts have helped the group to buy art supplies for the members to use, pay for a Christmas party, and will help pay for trips to some art-related venues. The various fundraisers also will help the group pay for this year’s annual art show that takes place toward the end of April.

Thursday, the group will have another baked goods raffle at the ballgames in Percefull Fieldhouse; however, this time, all the proceeds from this night of ticket sales will be given to the Lyon family.

“We appreciate Ranger basketball fans helping with our fundraising efforts,” Case said. “Besides raising funds each year for the Art Society, we want to give back by providing community service. I know that we’ll be able to raise even more money for the Lyons’ at our last basketball game fundraiser.”
