REGIONAL SPEECH/DEBATE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED AT NORTHWESTERN

            Students from 17 high schools will be at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Friday and Saturday for the Northwest Regional Speech and Debate Tournament.

            Students will compete in original oratory, standard oratory, humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, domestic extemporaneous speech (students have 30 minutes to write a seven minute answer to a question about current affairs in the U.S.), foreign extemporaneous (same as domestic extemporaneous, but about world affairs), prose, poetry, humorous duet, dramatic duet, monologue, Lincoln-Douglas debate and cross examination debate.

            Schools that will be participating include Cherokee, Cordell, Fairview, Freedom, Hammond, Hooker, Leedey, Okeene, Shattuck, Turpin and Tyrone in division 1A. In the 2A division will be Alva, Byng, Comanche, Hennessey, Kellyville and Kingfisher.

            The Northwest Regional is one of four regional tournaments held in the state. The top four finishers in each event go on to state competition at the University of Oklahoma on April 6, 7 and 8. The winner in each event at the state level is declared an all-state speech student and is entitled to wear an all-state jacket.
