NORTHWESTERN BROADCAST STUDENTS PLACE AT CONTEST

            Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s mass communication students in broadcasting did well at the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association awards held in Oklahoma City on March 31.          

            Award winners from Northwestern include:

            Katrina Segers, Belle Plain, Kan., post-graduate, first place, radio feature news; Tim Lauderdale, Woodward senior, first place, radio hard news; Chance Plett, Liberal, Kan., junior, first place, radio newscast; and Valerie Curry, Enid senior, second place, radio hard news and radio newscast.

            Other winners were:e:

            Adam Bishop, Pratt, Kan., senior, second place, scriptwriting; Caleb McAlister, Nash freshman, third place, radio newscast; Kiel Hauck, Medicine Lodge, Kan., senior, third place, TV promotional spot; and Adam Borth, Hutchinson, Kan., sophomore, and Kathryn Eckhardt, Cleo Springs, post-graduate, third place, TV play by play.

            “I find the OBEA competition is worthwhile for our student’s participation because it allows them to judge their experience with other students from around the state,” Mark Mattheis, NWTV general manager, said.

            The students competed against schools from across the state, including OU and OSU, and all 244 entries were judged by industry professionals from OETA, KOCO and BOB FM, as well as others.

            “I was very proud of the students this year,” Terry Floyd, KNSU radio adviser, said.  “It shows how talented our students are.  It was a good day.”
