ART SOCIETY HELPING PEOPLE GET HEAD START ON CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

            Believe it or not, Christmas is a little more than 80 days away, and the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society has a plan to help everyone get a head start on shopping.

            Today through Oct. 17, art club members are sponsoring a fundraiser of products from the Gooseberry Patch.

            Products include wall and mousepad calendars; organizers for coupons, recipes or greeting cards; a mini cookie cutter collection with recipes; colorful popcorn to pop; and a nice set of enamelware stacking bowls. There also are a number of cookbooks to choose from, including recipes for slow cookers, easily prepared meals, meals in minutes, recipes from grandma’s kitchen and some that take five ingredients or less.

            “All groups try to raise money, and we thought that having products like these might add something different to the mix,” Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, said.

            “We decided to start our fundraiser right before Family Day and extend it through Homecoming to allow everyone a chance to purchase Christmas gifts or gifts for other occasions. This way they won’t have to worry about the crowds of holiday shoppers getting those last minute gifts, not to mention that we’ll save everyone gas money. They can get their gifts from us and not have to drive anywhere at all to get them.”

            All NAS members will have flyers showing the various products and their prices. Club officers include Kristy Bauman, president; Catherine Wells, secretary; and Helena Plett, treasurer. The club’s web site at www.nwosu.edu/art lists the names of all other club members.

Gooseberry Patch has provided the club with three product examples, including the coupon organizer, and the cookbooks with recipes for slow cookers and from grandma’s kitchen.

            The club also plans to have a booth on the downtown square Saturday during homecoming.
