NORTHWESTERN JAZZ ENSEMBLE TO PRESENT CONCERT TUESDAY

            The Northwestern Oklahoma State University jazz ensemble will present a public concert at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, in Herod Hall Auditorium. Admission is free.

            Dr. Kathryn Lindberg, director, said the concert would feature both old and new jazz tunes and “this will be an evening of fun music.”

The line-up includes “The Jazz Police” by Gordon Goodwin, “My Favorite Things” by Richard Rodgers, “Strike Up the Band” by George Gershwin, “Afterburner by Mark Taylor and “Brass Roots by Don Sebesky.

“Channel One Suite” by Bill Reddie will feature a drum solo by Matthew Kelly of Alva; Kevin Kerr of Conway Springs, Kan., will be featured on fluegelhorn during “Closely Dancing” by Arturo Sandoval; and Adam Treeman of Enid will be featured on bass trombone during “Spin Cycle” by Alan Baylock.

Max Ridgway of Alva will join the group to play guitar and also will be featured during “Closely Dancing.”

The jazz emsemble consists of:

Saxophones—Derek Coulter of Alva, Misty Burghardt of Beaver, Anna Keigley of Alva, Ashlie Hawley of Buffalo and Mim Hicks of Jefferson City, Mo.;

Trumpets—Kerr, Eric Wheeler of Enid, Carrie Hatlestad of Alva and Cary Gilchrist of Seiling;

Trombones—Treeman, Yvonne Colle-Burden of Medicine Lodge, Kan., Ryan Wiebener of Alva, Chris Jamison of Carmen and Matt Tillson of Enid; and

Rhythm Section—Kelly, Amy Hook of Alva on bass and Kristy Meyer of Alva on piano.
