NORTHWESTERN THEATRE TO PRESENT ‘THE SHADOW BOX,'
GRANT BOWEN DIRECTOR, DESIGNER, ACTOR

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s theatre students will present Michael Cristofer's “The Shadow Box,” at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 18 and 19, in Herod Hall Auditorium.

Tickets are $1 per person and will be available at the door on the nights of the performances or can be reserved by contacting Kimberly Weast, assistant professor of theatre, at (580) 327-8462.

Grant Bowen (back) watches over theatre rehearsals for the upcoming production of "The Shadow Box." Grant is the director, designer and one of the actors in this production as part of the requirements for his senior portfolio. In the scene being rehearsed are Heather Munn and Lewis Mize.

"The Shadow Box" examines what life is through the situations of people dealing with death.  Due to graphic language and adult discussions, the play is not suitable for children.

The cast consists of Kevin Kerr, Conway Springs, Kan., junior, as Joe; Erin Cheney, Fresno, Calif., freshman, as Maggie; Drew Hughes, Drummond sophomore, as Steven; Lewis Mize, Follett, Texas, junior, as Mark; and Heather Munn, Duncan sophomore, as Beverly.

Other cast members include Grant Bowen, Alva senior, as Brian; Brooke Weiss, Anthony, Kan., junior, as Agnes; Georgia Spelvin, Alva post-graduate, as Felicity; and Zach Smith, Cherokee senior, as The Interviewer. Ashley Ottensmeier, Duncan sophomore, is the stage manager.

The production is under the direction of Bowen, a speech and theatre major, as part of his senior portfolio. Bowen wears many hats in this production, as he is the director, designer and actor.

“It’s been hectic,” Bowen said. “This is my first time directing, and on top of that, I’m designing and acting. Hopefully, it will all pay off in the end.”

“This play is a provocative, thought-provoking view about what life means,” Bowen said.  “I hope everyone can come and see something different.”
