NORTHWESTERN YEAR-END AWARDS TO BE PRESENTED SATURDAY
The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation’s Special Awards Ceremony will be at 6 p.m., Saturday, in the Ranger Room of the Student Center as part of annual Spring Reunion activities.
The T.C. Carter Award recognizes graduating seniors with the highest cumulative grade point average (CGPA). This year, there are five seniors with perfect 4.0 CGPAs: Valerie Curry of Enid, Diana Smith of Enid, Jennifer Stone of Elk City, Patrick Weems of Woodward and Kary Zweifel of Carrier.
The John Sheffield Teacher of the Year Award presented by the Student Government Association will go to Dr. Fred Jungman, professor of economics. The recipient must display the attributes of Sheffield, a former Northwestern professor—genuine enthusiasm, courage to give of himself and faith to trust in his profession.
The Psychology Student of the Year Award will be shared by Amy Frantz of Fairview and Janice Reid of Enid. Given by the Psychology Club, criteria include grade point average, field-related activities, classroom participation and potential for continued success.
Kelli Steidley of Ponca City will receive the John Ted Meier Student Teaching Award that recognizes fairness, empathy for students, a sense of humor and academic achievement. Meier was a faculty member and director of student teachers.
Also in the teaching area, the Dr. Joe Dollins Merit Award will go to Jang Kwon of Seoul, Korea. Also named for a former faculty member, the award goes to an education major based on CGPA and promise of future achievement in education.
The Sabin and Pearl Percefull Scholarship Award will go to Holly Blevins of Kremlin. Sabin Percefull is a former president of Northwestern and his wife was a faculty member. Based on grade point, character and need, the scholarship is reserved for a student with a major or minor in social science.
The John F. Kennedy Award presented by the Student Government Association will be awarded to Curry. The recipient must serve the university, community and country; display school spirit; promote the university; possess leadership attributes; participate in organizations; and strive for academic achievement.
Nine students will receive plaques and savings bonds for being selected as Northwestern’s Outstanding Seniors. Announced separately, they are Julie Case, Curry, Leslie Cinnamon, Jennifer Lakely, Tim Lauderdale, Dee Dee Miller, Smith, Stone and Jocelyn Sweeden.
