NORTHWESTERN STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES PLACE IN ART SHOW

            Sixteen Northwestern Oklahoma State University employees and 23 students entered their work recently in the Third Annual Northwestern Art Society Art Show where almost $700 was available in prize money. The show is open to the public until April 30 in the J.W. Martin Library.

            On May 2 and 3, those pieces winning first place, Best of Show and People’s Choice, will move downtown to the Runnymede for a public showing. A reception for the artists will be at 7 p.m. on May 2.


A wood carved eagle (right) created by Mike Wagar of Nash is the “Best of Show” in the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society’s art show student competition. The employee “Best of Show” winner is Dr. Jerry Brownrigg for his “Mesquite Vase.” These two items, plus several more winning pieces from the campus show, will be on display at the Runnymede May 2 and 3.

The campus art show was open to Northwestern employees and students and runs through April 30. Art work winning first place in this show will be taken downtown to be on display for the viewing public May 2 and 3 at the Runnymede.

            Art work not displayed downtown may be picked up in the library by the artists on May 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pieces showing at the Runnymede may be picked up downtown at the close of the show on May 3 or between 3 and 5 p.m. on May 4.    

            Winning this year’s student Best of Show award, $75 and a ribbon is Mike Wagar of Nash with a wood carved eagle. Winning the employee category and a ribbon is Dr. Jerry Brownrigg for a wood turned/sculpted mesquite vase.

            The viewing public selected B.J. Taylor’s pencil drawing of “Sherri” as the winner of “People’s Choice.” Taylor receives a ribbon and $50.

            Students winning their respective divisions, $50 and a ribbon include Textiles, Kristy Bauman, Baby Afghan; Graphics, Catherine Wells, Untitled (pencil); 3-D/Functional, Mike Wagar, Eagle; Photography, Kayte Anton, Remembrance; and Painting, Kiera Brunson, We All Come Falling Down.

            Employees winning their respective divisions and ribbons include Textiles, Cindy Smith, Old Santa; Graphics, Angelia Case, Daisy; 3-D Functional, Jerry Brownrigg, Mesquite Vase; Photography, Valarie Case, New York in February; and Painting, Max Ridgway, Premonition of a Dream.

            All students placing first receive a $15 prize. First through third places also receive ribbons in both the student and employee categories.

            Oil – first, We All Come Falling Down, Brunson; second, Tetradic Swirls, Bauman; third, Depression in the Distance, Brunson.

            Acrylic – first, B.J. Taylor, Kenya; second, Carlinda Carmack, Flowers in Whimsy; third, Jeremiah Stewart, A Growing Past.

            Watercolor – first, Carlinda Carmack, Spring in Watercolor; second, Watching Men Go By, and third, I Want To Be Like Dad, both by Brunson.

            Pastel – first, Brunson, Study of Dali’s Composition of Drawers; second, Zenita Kayastha, Musical Instruments; third, Brunson, Encaged Freedom.

            Pencil – first, Catherine Wells, Untitled; second, B.J. Taylor, Sherri; third, Anika Brandt, Freedom.

            Pen & Ink – first, RIP James, and second, Best Friends, both by Taylor; third, Jeremiah Stewart, Saporagen.

            Mixed Media – first, Wells, Untitled; second, Aye ‘N’ Nye, and third, Intraption, both by Brunson.
