FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 16, 2005
FOUR INITIATED INTO HISTORY HONOR SOCIETY
Northwestern Oklahoma State University's Mu Lambda chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, a history honor society, conducted its annual initiation of new members on April 27. Candidates for membership must have a 3.0 overall grade point average with a 3.1 in at least 12 hours of history courses.
Thirteen members, initiates, professors and guests met at the historic Harvey
House railroa
d
depot in Waynoka. Sandra Olson, president of the Waynoka Historical Society,
gave the visitors a tour of the museum located inside the recently restored
building.
Dr. Roger Hardaway, professor of history and Mu Lambda chapter adviser, spoke briefly to the group about the history of Phi Alpha Theta and conducted the initiation of four new members.
The 2005 Mu Lambda class includes Kayte Anton of Norco, Calif., Shae Brown of Gate, Brandon Morris of Enid, and Nelson Myers of Alva. Anton, Brown and Morris are all Northwestern undergraduates.
Myers' initiation was a gift from members of the history department honoring him for his many years of service to the department as an adjunct professor. Myers, who began teaching at Northwestern after a long career as a public school teacher, retired from the university in December 2004.
After the initiation ceremony, the group dined in the El Charro restaurant located inside the depot.
