NORTHWESTERN NEWS, STAFF WRITERS PLACE AT OCPA CONTEST 

            Six Northwestern Oklahoma State University mass communications students were honored with individual awards at the Oklahoma Collegiate Press Association’s annual conference in Stillwater on April 8.

            The Northwestern News also was given the “Award of Excellence” in the Overall Newspaper General Excellence category for four-year public schools. The “Award of Excellence” is equivalent to a first place award.

            Northwestern had two students place first in individual categories. Audra Curry, Enid senior, earned a first place in Display Advertising, and Jordan Taylor, Alva senior, placed first in Reviews.

            Brooke L. Aldridge, a December 2004 graduate, placed third in News Writing.

            Honorable mention honors went to Bradley Gilbert, Enid junior, for News Photography; Kiel Hauck, Medicine Lodge, Kan., senior, for Sports Writing; and Eric Scott, Woodward junior, for Feature Photography.

            The issues entered in the Overall Newspaper category were from Feb. 5, 2004, and Dec. 2, 2004.

Senior staff members who designed the entry from the spring 2004 semester include Kayte Anton, Norco, Calif., senior; Lauren Casteel, McCloud senior; Erica Miller, Drummond senior; Anna (Robinson) Woods, Buhler, Kan., senior; Aldridge and Curry.

Staff members working on the fall semester issue include Kori Shreck, Blackwell junior; Catherine Miller, Medford junior; Aldridge, Curry, Gilbert and Hauck.

“We had a great showing, and I am extremely proud of our students,” said Tammy Brown, communication department chairman. “They represented our program well.”
