MARTHA EVANS RECOGNIZED FOR SCIENCE FAIR SERVICE

            Dr. Martha Evans, associate professor of education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, has been selected to the Oklahoma State Science & Engineering Fair (OSSEF) Hall of Fame.

            Evans, who has served for five years on the organizing committee for the Regional Science Fair held annually at Northwestern, was nominated for the honor by Dr. Cynthia Pfeifer-Hill, chair of the Department of Natural Science and director of the Science Fair. The other Science Fair committee members, Steve Thompson, assistant professor of biology, and Steve Maier, assistant professor of physics, endorsed the nomination.

            “This is quite an honor to receive,” Pfeifer-Hill said. “It is awarded annually to persons who have demonstrated outstanding contributions and dedication to science fairs across the state.”

            Evans has been involved in obtaining the Regional Science Fair trophies and medallions, organizing and printing certificates and coordinating the awards ceremony each year. This past spring, she also compiled a program listing exhibits, rules, agenda, etc., that was printed and distributed to all participating students and teachers.

            In addition, Evans and some of her education students coordinate and set up the science project viewing arena. Each year, she also travels to judge projects at seven to nine local science fairs within Northwestern’s regional level.

            “To me, what is so remarkable is that she has done all of the Science Fair duties on a volunteer bases without any academic compensation,” Pfeifer-Hill said. “She is always so enthusiastic and looks forward to participating in hosting our Regional Science Fair each year.”

            Evans will officially receive her plaque at the Spring Reunion Banquet Saturday night.
