The Northwestern Oklahoma
State University Mathematics Department has received a $7,500 corporate grant
from ConocoPhilips to sponsor a Summer Math Academy, May 29 – June 3 on
Northwestern’s Alva campus.
Eighteen talented and motivated high school students are invited to Northwestern for a one-week academy. Students are exposed to the many applications of mathematics, as well as the technology available to enhance students’ understanding of mathematics. . .

Classroom activities include hands-on use of Texas Instruments graphing calculators, as well as laboratory sessions with mathematical software such as Derive and Mathematica. The weeklong academy also introduces students to real-world applications of mathematics through field trips to Vance Air Force Base in Enid, ConocoPhilips in Ponca City, the Byron State Fish Hatchery and Cargill Salt near Freedom.
Interested ninth through eleventh-graders are encouraged to apply by contacting Maharry at (580) 327-8583 or by visiting the Northwestern Math Academy Web site at www.nwosu.edu/MathAcademy.htm.
