FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 26, 2005
MARTHA EVANS BECOMES PROGRAM REVIEWER
Dr. Martha Evans, associate professor of education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, was invited to be part of the first class of science educators to be trained to review science education programs that are seeking accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Evans explained that, in the past, only officers of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) or members of NCATE reviewed programs.
The training session was conducted at NSTA’s national conference in Dallas for approximately 25 professors from across the United States. Part of the training was a practice review that Evans said was very informative.
“The reviewer’s position is a three-year commitment for me,” Evans said. “It wouldn’t be possible for me to this without the support of Dr. Greg Seay (chair of the Division of Education) and Dr. James Bowen (dean of the School of Professional Studies).”
NCATE currently accredits 602 teacher education programs with nearly 100 additional programs seeking accreditation.
