FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 13, 2005
BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR NORTHWESTERN-ENID
The American Red Cross and Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid are “United for Life” through blood donations with a drive scheduled for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, at the campus at 2929 E. Randolph.
All donors will receive a commemorative “United for Life” T-shirt and will be automatically entered into a drawing for a $500 gift card from Home Depot.
“We are excited to be ‘United for Life’ with the Red Cross, helping to provide blood for area patients in need,” said Dr. Cheryl Evans, dean of Northwestern-Enid. “Many people do not realize how easy it is to donate blood. It just takes an hour to save three lives.”
“It is so important for all residents to know that donating blood really saves many lives each and every day,” said Mike Clark, CEO of the American Red Cross Southwest Region. “We are so grateful to Northwestern for helping us out by holding this drive that helps save lives right here in this area.”
To donate blood, a person must be in good health, be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more. Donors need to bring a Red Cross donor card, valid driver’s license with a photo or other form of official photo identification. For more information, call 1-800-GIVE LIFE or log onto www.arcblood.redcross.org.
The Red Cross is at work within the community whether the need is for blood, disaster services or to connect a serviceman to home in time of need. The Red Cross provides nearly one-half of the nation’s blood supply and reminds residents that someone needs blood every two seconds in the United States, but only 2 percent of the eligible population are blood donors.
