ENGLISH TEACHER RECEIVES NATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Kathy Earnest, a Northwestern Oklahoma State University English instructor, received her National Board for Teacher Certification in Library Media in November.
Earnest worked on her certification for a year while she was Alva High School’s librarian, a job she had for 13 years before coming to teach at Northwestern.
To become certified, Earnest had to put together an extensive portfolio providing detailed analyses of her teaching practices. After completing the portfolio, Earnest then had to go to an assessment center where she was asked questions specific to her field of library media.
Earnest began the process in the fall of 2003 and received her national board certification in November of 2004.
“Although this certification applies more to public education teachers, I have found that the concepts are useful in my teaching practice here at Northwestern,” said Earnest, who plans on using her knowledge and experience to assist other candidates or prospective teachers on their way to becoming national board certified.
