FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 20, 2005
NORTHWESTERN ART SOCIETY ART SHOW BEGINS THURSDAY
Northwestern Oklahoma State University students
and employees brought in more than 100 pieces of art work to be displayed and
judged during the 2nd Annual Northwestern Art Society (NAS) Art Show.
The show runs Thursday through May 2 during normal business hours at
Northwestern’s J.W. Martin Library.
“I encourage everyone to come out and see the art work,” Angelia Case, NAS adviser, said. “There are many wonderful pieces of art that have been entered. We have six entries from the Enid campus. I can’t wait for everyone to come to the library and let us show off the many talents of our students and employees.”
Art work entered includes film and digital photography, digital art, watercolor, pencil/pen and ink, acrylic, mixed media, needlework, quilts and turned wood bowls.
Case said that Art Society members have worked to make improvements after last year’s show. They also have been hard at work this year in fundraising efforts. Through raffles and money given to NAS from the Student Government Association and Presidential Partners, the group is offering more than $500 in prize money this year.
“We really appreciate the SGA co-sponsoring this event with us this year and also appreciate the support shown to us by President and Mrs. Beran and Presidential Partners,” Case said.
Besides ribbons, student winners in the four divisions of flatwork, graphics, textiles and 3-D functional art will receive $50 each. All students winning first place in the 16 divisional categories will win $15 each. All employee winners will receive ribbons for their work.
Judges also will determine a Best of Show for student and employee entries. Both will receive special recognition ribbons, and students will earn a $75 prize.
All student and employee entries will be eligible for the $50 People’s Choice Award. This award will be determined by which piece of art work receives the most votes from those attending the show. Viewers will need to put the name of the artist, as well as the name of the art work on their ballot, so the appropriate piece may be recognized. The votes will be tabulated on April 28.
“We have a hard working, fun-loving group,” Case said. “We’ve worked hard this school year to raise funds for this art show, as well as to take trips to museums. The art show is a culmination of our efforts and is our No. 1 priority. We take pride in bringing attention to the talents of the people at Northwestern.”
