HUNTER PRESENTS SENIOR VOCAL RECITAL SUNDAY
Soprano Abigail Hunter of Vici will present her senior recital at 3 p.m., Sunday, in Room 200 of the Fine Arts Building at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She will be accompanied by Charla Parker on the piano and joined by flautists Joanne Prewett and Daci Fletcher. The recital is free and the public is invited.
The recital will begin with a J.S. Bach cantata aria, familiar to many as “Sheep may safely graze,” sung in the original German and accompanied by two flutes. French art songs by Claude Debussy and Spanish art songs by Joaquin Rodrigo will follow. “The “Jewel Song” from the opera Faust by Gounod, sung in the original French, and some cabaret songs by Britten and Carnelia will round out the program.
At Northwestern, Hunter has been a member of the Concert Choir, University Chorale and University Singers. She has performed each year as a member of the royal court in the Christmas Madrigal Feastes and competed in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) collegiate auditions. She is a student of Aija Shrader, assistant professor of music.
She also has participated in opera workshop and has been seen as Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti’s “The Medium,” Ruth in Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance,” and Euridice in Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld.”
This spring, she will perform the role of Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte. A member of the Phi Delta Music Society, Hunter has performed in the annual Swing Cabaret and has been a part of the music department’s annual Evening of Song.
She is the daughter of Johnny and Marie Hunter of Vici and the granddaughter of Loreta Dye of Camargo and Arlene Hunter of Vici.
