MISS CINDERELLA CONTESTANTS VISIT NORTHWESTERN CAMPUS

Twenty-seven young women representing their high schools in the 52nd annual Miss Cinderella Pageant will be at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Saturday morning for an orientation session.

The contestants and their sponsors will meet with the pageant committee to review all requirements and rules associated with the talent show on Nov. 13, the coronation on Nov. 14 and riding in Northwestern’s homecoming parade on Saturday, Nov. 15, according to Dr. Patti Wilber, pageant director.

University President Dr. Paul Beran and his wife Janice will welcome the contestants to the university. The committee also will cover rehearsals, judging criteria, wardrobe requirements and all other activities connected to the pageant, Wilber said.

The contestants will be assigned to groups and have their photos taken for publicity purposes. The session will end with a luncheon in the Student Center attended by the contestants and sponsors, pageant committee members, and Irala Magee, director of financial aid.

Pageant Pals, a group of former Miss Cinderella contestants who are now students at Northwestern, will act as mentors to the current contestants. Currently, approximately 30 former Miss Cinderella contestants are attending Northwestern-Alva.

“Participating in a pageant like Miss Cinderella is an exciting experience for 17 and 18-year-

old girls,” Wilber said. “The Pageant Pals have been through all the activities and understand the

feelings of anticipation when waiting backstage to perform. They will help their assigned contestants and relive their own memories of the pageant.”

The 2003 contestants are divided into six groups—Amethyst, Diamond, Emerald, Ruby Sapphire and Topaz—and Pageant Pals are assigned to each group. They are available to answer questions and assist backstage during the talent show and coronation.
