BLOOD INSTITUTE SETS UP NWOSU DONATION DRIVE

All students, family, friends and alumni of Northwestern Oklahoma State University are being asked to participate in a blood drive April 12-17 at the Northwestern Oklahoma Blood Institute (NWOBI) at 301 E. Cherokee. All donors will receive their choice of T-shirt, including a specially-designed limited edition Northwestern shirt.

The Northwestern-Enid campus drive on March 24 netted 40 donors, more than doubling last year’s total of 19 and far surpassing the goal of 24 donors. The availability of the Northwestern T-shirt was credited with helping the campus exceed the goal, according to Rebecca Hulse, student services coordinator. She said the shirts were a big hit with the donors.

At Northwestern’s Alva campus, the T-Shirts also were credited with helping set a new record of 402 pints donated during a blood drive in February.

In addition to the T-shirts, there will be other promotional activities for the week-long event, according to Kenda Morris, NWOBI blood program consultant.

“We will have Northwestern memorabilia displayed and a registry book for all NWOSU supporters to sign a special message,” she said.

There will be drawings throughout the week for prizes donated by the university. On Monday, KXLS 95.7 FM radio will be doing a live remote to promote the blood drive. Jane McDermott, executive director of the Northwestern Foundation, also will be there.

“I would really like to encourage students who donated at the record-breaking campus drive to call their friends and family and challenge them to donate the gift of life at the Northwestern In-Center blood drive,” Morris said.

The NWOBI hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday; and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
