Pediatric Assessment Day

Junior nursing students held Pediatric Assessment Day 2012 at Northwestern Oklahoma State University last month. The group invited Mrs. Tyree’s morning Pre-K class from Washington Elementary School to attend this event.
Nursing students focused on communication with the elementary students to prepare them to begin their nursing clinical at Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma. Each Pre-K student was given a “Northwestern Nursing We Care” t-shirt by the Student Nurses Association for participating in the Assessment Day.
“I believe it was an excellent learning experience for both sets of students,” said Jennifer Mahieu, instructor of nursing. “Who knows, we might have a future nurse in Mrs. Tyree’s class.”
Mahieu and Leslie Collins, instructors for the Nursing Care of the Family course, organized the Assessment Day.
