Paul Mathis has been a faculty member at NWOSU since the fall of 2008. Prior to his arrival at NWOSU, Paul taught at Longfellow Junior High School (now Longfellow Middle School) in Enid, Oklahoma for eleven years. During his time at Longfellow, he taught seventh grade English for five years and ninth grade English for six years. “I had many pleasant experiences at Longfellow that have shaped who I am as a person. I truly enjoyed working with such a delightful faculty and staff and also being able to make a difference in many students’ lives.” Paul is certified by the Oklahoma State Department of Education in the following areas: American Literature; English Literature; World Literature; Grammar and Composition; and Middle School Language Arts.

Paul gained his education from the following institutions: Northern Oklahoma College (Associate of Arts); Southwestern Oklahoma State University (Bachelor of Arts in Education—English Education); and Northwestern Oklahoma State University (Master of Education—Secondary Education). Paul is currently completing his Doctorate of Philosophy at Oklahoma State University, and he hopes to be finished very soon.

In addition, Paul has been a proud member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard since 1990 and has served a tour of duty in Iraq. “It is my highest honor to be a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. This too has greatly shaped who I am as a person, and it is a blessing to be a member of such a fine organization.”
