Parents asked to keep children safe during parade; candy cannot be thrown from moving vehicles

October 6, 2015

A parade can provide enjoyment and lifelong memories for children. To make sure this happens, the Northwestern Oklahoma State University/Alva Homecoming Committee is encouraging parents to help make the parade safe for children.

To make the parade a safe environment, the Homecoming committee is asking that parents keep all children in the parking area on the side of the street and not in the streets.

“To keep all the elements that make the parade an enjoyable experience it is important for children remain back a safe distance,” said Dr. David Pecha, Homecoming chair.

Pecha said that the committee has stressed the importance of safety to those who have entered the float contest or will be in any moving vehicle. He said that the only people allowed to have candy during the parade will be people walking beside the moving vehicles. Candy cannot be thrown from a float or a moving vehicle.

“We want everybody to enjoy Saturday safely,” Pecha said.
