Homecoming is here!
Hard to believe we've only been in school for about a month! It's been so busy so far, and Homecoming is next week!
If you have been totally consumed by other events since the start of school, you can catch up to what all is planned for next week's Homecoming celebration by visiting the Northwestern Homecoming website at www.nwosu.edu/homecoming (and several articles below will give more details on Homecoming events).
On the website, you'll find information on float, door decoration and sheet sign entries, as well as where to buy a Homecoming button and what discounts it will provide to you, as well as where to get your Homecoming t-shirt, alumni reunions and locations for those, and more!
Homecoming Week kicks off Monday with a cookout and bonfire, and several events continue through the week. The annual pep rally will be Friday at noon at The Ranger statue. Several special student events are planned, and all Homecoming events can be found at link above or check out the Student Events Calendar.
The parade is Saturday at 10 a.m. in downtown Alva, and the football game is at 3 p.m. at Ranger Field. This just happens to be the first home football game of the season, so we'll get our first look at the Ranger Red and Black, as well as the "new look" (and size) "Spirit of Northwest Oklahoma" Ranger Marching Band! The band has grown from 24 to about 65 members this year, and the members will be sporting brand new uniforms! The Ranger Queen and King coronation will take place at halftime of the game, and a Homecoming Dance, featuring the band Trader-Price, will round out the day's events starting at 8 p.m. at the Woods County Fairgrounds.
Northwestern records fifth largest enrollment in school history
Enrollment for the 2010 fall semester at Northwestern Oklahoma State University is the fifth largest in school history and marks the highest total in 40 years.
According to a preliminary enrollment report submitted to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, a total of 2,311 students are attending classes this fall, an increase of 3.3 percent from a year ago when 2,237 were enrolled.
Credit hour production also rose by 6.4 percent.
This year’s enrollment is the largest since a four-year period during the Vietnam War era when enrollment rose above 2,400 and peaked at 2,641 in 1968. Read more

Submitting campus events to calendar, reserving campus meeting locations
If you're wanting to schedule a campus event or request a room to meet in, please visit www.nwosu.edu/event to fill out the necessary reservation form to request the room and get the item on the overall Calendar of Events, and/or the Student Events Calendar. Please considering submitting the form even if the room you're using needs no other permission because the form is how it's known to put the event on the calendars.
If you have a campus news item in your area that should be shared with the community or in this newsletter, please let us know. You can always use our Submit News form that we have provided for you on the University Relations web page.
NWOSU web page presence or training needed?
There are a number of web pages on the university's site, and you may be just the person to make sure the information is up-to-date. A number of campus clubs and organizations still need some representation on the site, as well as people to update that information.
If you are needing a page for your area and have not gone through a web editing training session, please contact Jake Boedecker, webmaster, or Valarie Case, university relations. Training sessions can be scheduled sometime after Homecoming.
