Having a new idea or product that you want to bring to
market is a daunting task that will require work on your part whether you
want to license the idea to an existing company or move it to a market
yourself. At a minimum you will need the following:
- A consultant to help guide you (Bill Gregory the Regional Director for
OSBDC offers this for the State of Oklahoma "FREE",
bwgregory@nwosu.edu)
- Protection for your idea in the form of Patent, Trademark, Copyright,
or Trade secret or a combination of all of these
- Technical Drawings and working prototype
- A good market test
- Specific industry information that pertains to your product
- A Marketing Plan and most likely a Business Plan
- A facility willing to produce the product
- Financial backing to introduce the product (its common to spend
$100,000)
This process often takes a year or more to complete with the caveat that
the shorter the time span the better.
It is strongly recommended that you have a consultant to
help you through the process that has an understanding of all phases.
