Oklahoma Teacher Certification tests now offered at NWOSU-Alva Campus

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Alva campus has been approved as a Pearson VUE Authorized Test Center for the Certification Exams for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE) and will be listed on the CEOE registration web page beginning April 4.

Dr. Bo Hannaford, dean of the School of Professional Studies, explained that the contract with Pearson VUE will allow Northwestern to play host to the following three tests:

Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET); Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT); and Oklahoma Professional Teacher’s Exam (OPTE).

In computer-based testing, examinees complete the tests by selecting answers on-screen to selected-response questions and typing responses to writing assignments.

During the 2014-2015 academic year, the Oklahoma Teacher Certification Exams have been in transition from paper/pencil testing to computer-based testing. Beginning fall 2015, all Oklahoma certification tests will be offered by computer testing only.

Throughout this past year, Hannaford and education faculty realized that the closest testing center for a student is at least a two-hour drive away. It is the hope of Hannaford and Northwestern’s teacher education faculty that having a host site at the Alva campus will help students with having to drive so far to take their certification exams.

The computer-based testing room on the Alva campus is located in the Industrial Education Building, using only the north entrance. Immediately inside the north entrance, Industrial Education room 110 will be used for admission procedures and room 119 is the lab used for testing. Space is limited to 15 examinees per testing date.

Hannaford said that Melissa Brown, division of education secretary, will serve as the testing center supervisor. All test proctors for the site were required to take an exam with Pearson Evaluation Systems to become certified administrators.
