Melanie Wilderman, instructor of mass communications and newspaper adviser, and eight staff members traveled to Stillwater to receive the awards.

“I am very proud of the news staff for its efforts this year,” Wilderman said.

The Northwestern News received an award of merit in the Overall Newspaper public four-year school category, and the paper also received an award of merit in Front Page Design and Interior Page Design.

Four Northwestern students and one former student were recognized for individual performances. Kevin Kerr, Conway Springs (Kan.) senior, received first place in the Review category with Sherryce Benson, Alva senior, receiving second place in Display Ads.
