WICHITA, Kan. – The Lady Ranger basketball team helped Northwestern to a clean sweep of athletic events over Friends (Kan.) on Saturday in Wichita, as the women defeated Friends 49-44 in their second game of the Friends Classic, following Northwestern’s football team’s 42-7 thrashing of Friends in the opening round of the NAIA Playoffs.
Four players posted double figures and Autumn Klugh led the way with 21 points against Ottawa (Kan.) in the Lady Rangers first game of the Classic on Friday. Danielle Stebens posted 15 points, while Claudia Vazquez and Ashley Johnson had 14 each. D’Shanna Buter finished with 10.
Northwestern shot 52 percent and went off from the three-point line, hitting 15-of-27. Klugh hit 7-of-9 from behind the arc for all 21 of her points. Vazquez led the way with eight boards.
In a low scoring game Saturday against Friends, both teams struggled shooting. The Rangers shot 33 percent, while Friends shot only 22 percent.
Northwestern’s starters scored all but seven of the points as Vazquez had more than half of NWOSU’s points with 23. She picked up nine boards while hitting nine field goals and five free throws. D’Shanna Butler had nine points, while Leandra Johnson had a team-high 10 rebounds.
Northwestern (4-1) begins Sooner Athletic Conference play on Monday, Nov. 24 with a 6 p.m. game against Oklahoma Christian.
