Northwestern will play host to district band contest on March 1

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will play host to the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) District Band Contest starting at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, in the Herod Hall Auditorium.

This event is free and open to the public.

Eighteen schools from Oklahoma will perform including Pride of Medford Band with Director Katherine Flaherty at 8:30 a.m.; Waynoka Seventh-12th Grade Band with Director Erin Place at 8:52 a.m.; Pond Creek-Hunter High School Band with Director Craig Engel at 9:14 a.m.; Oklahoma Bible Academy with Director David Holland at 9:36 a.m.; Waukomis Chief Concert Band with Director Sean Newman at 9:58 a.m.; Okeene Junior, Senior High School Band with Director Meagan Dennis at 10:20 a.m.; Buffalo Junior High Band with Director Byron Conner at 10:42 a.m.; Longfellow Eighth Grade Band with Director Adrian Gomez at 11:04 a.m.; Emerson Middle School Band with Director David Toelle at 11:26 a.m.; Woodward Middle School Band with Director Jeffrey Poort at 11:48 a.m.; Alva Band of Gold with Director Cara Bradt at 1:15 p.m.; Hooker High School Band with Director Angela Flanagan at 1:37 p.m.; Watonga High School Band with Director David Mudd at 1:59 p.m.; Kingfisher High School Band with Director Dakota Horn at 2:21 p.m.; Vici High School Band with Director Keegan Trimbleat 2:43 p.m.; Ringwood Junior High / High School Band with Director Kyle Stewart at 3:05 p.m.; Deer Creek-Lamont High School Band with director Jeffrey McReynolds at 3:27 p.m.; and Pioneer-Pleasant Vale High School with Director Sherri Lohmann at 3:49 p.m.

Dr. Marc Decker, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental studies and music education at Northwestern, encourages students and community to come and watch the performances.
