September 28, 2012 -- Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s first theatre production of the season starts with “Little Women” – a delightful adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel where the four spirited March sisters – Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy – sustain their family in the absence of their father, who is away fighting the Civil War.

Corrie Danieley, a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, came to Northwestern Oklahoma State University to teach students to rediscover how to use their whole self – mind and body – in order to move with greater ease.

February 8, 2012 -- Jewel thieves will enter Herod Hall Auditorium for “Exit the Body,” a play by Fred Carmichael, which debuts Feb. 16-17, at 7:30 p.m. and on Feb. 18, at 2 p.m., presented by the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Theatre program.

October 7, 2011 - Northwestern Oklahoma State University speech and theatre major Kristy Benson will present her senior production of “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds” by Paul Zindell on Oct. 13-15 in Herod Hall Auditorium.

Nearly 40 people have been working for the last few months preparing for the Northwestern Oklahoma State University theatre program’s production of “Company: A Musical Comedy.” The show is April 7-8 at 7:30 p.m. and April 9 at 2 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium in Alva. Admission is $3 for students with a valid ID, $8 for university employees with ID and $10 for all others.

Laughter can be heard throughout Herod Hall Auditorium at Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m., as the theatre department presents “A Hairy Tale.” This fun journey will take the audience through Wychwood Forest with Rapunzel, the Fairy Godmother, an Evil Queen and numerous familiar storybook characters.

The one-act play “Nowhere Fast,” written and directed by Northwestern Oklahoma State University senior Ashlynn Walker, will debut next week. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 7 and 8, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in Herod Hall Auditorium.

Ashlynn Walker, a Perryton, Texas, senior at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, has been accepted into the 2010 Kennedy Center Summer Playwriting Intensive program in Washington, D.C. This year the program had a record-number of applications with more than 200 applying for this opportunity. Out of the 200 applicants, only 60 are accepted with 40 placed into the Primary Program.

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Fine Arts Department will play host to a never-before performed production April 8-10 in Herod Hall Auditorium. “Blue-Haired Belles,” a script written by playwright and Woodward native Woody Leonard, will be directed by Sayre theatre major Charlie Burns for his senior performance. The play explores life in a small town in Oklahoma and will shed light on the lives of the ladies of Charlene’s Crispy Chick Café. The production will run at 7:30 p.m. on April 8 and 9, and 2 p.m. on April 10.

An anonymous donor has contributed $50,000 to the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation to establish the Linda J. Stewart and Kimberly K. Weast Theatre Scholar Award and is issuing a challenge for the gift to be matched.

Members of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University theatre program have been reading over the script of a new production they will debut in April. “The Blue Haired Belles of the Burger Bar” will be performed for the first time anywhere on the Herod Hall stage April 8-10.

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Fine Arts will present “The Wizard of Oz in the Wild West,” Nov. 12-14 in Herod Hall Auditorium. The show, written by Willard Simms, will be an all-ages tale of The Wizard of Oz with a western twist. It will revisit the story’s classic characters, as well as add in some new faces.

Three students from the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Fine Arts’ production of “Vietnam 101: The War on Campus” have been named as nominees for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Auditions. Based on their performances, Ashlynn Walker, Tyler Shafer and Lisa Bradt learned of their nomination after meeting with respondents from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).

Lisa Bradt, Alva senior, will direct “Addict” in Herod Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, for her senior performance. This play is free and open to the public.

Local photographer Jim Richey met with theatre students from Northwestern Oklahoma State University to recreate an original painting completed by the late Lester Raymer in 1940. Richey photographed students to catch their facial expressions and clothing, which will be used by Portland, Ore., artist R.E. Pierce when he recreates a mural for the Woods County Courthouse.

Kimberly Weast, associate professor of theatre at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, is the recipient of the 2009 Innovation in Teaching and Learning Award.

Twenty-one students learning 21 songs along with designing a set for the theatre program’s latest production, “Schoolhouse Rock Live,” requires them to spend countless hours in rehearsal and construction at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in preparation for the show’s debut on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m.

Hit songs like “Conjunction Junction,” “The Preamble,” and “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly,” from the famous Saturday morning cartoon Schoolhouse Rock, will invade Herod Hall Auditorium Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m.

Two Northwestern Oklahoma State University students competed in the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) competition at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, recently.

The Suspenders, Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s new improvisational theatre troupe, will present their inaugural performance on Thursday, Feb 19, at 7:30 p.m., in Herod Hall Auditorium. Tickets for the event are $1.
