Students from the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Student Oklahoma Education Association group received state honors as being named Outstanding Chapter of the Year. Northwestern Oklahoma State University chapter of the Student Oklahoma Education Association (SOEA) was named Outstanding Chapter of the Year at a recent state convention.
Northwestern’s SOEA group has been named Outstanding Chapter of the Year for the past three out of five years.
SOEA annually recognizes a local campus chapter based on applications from the chapters. Points are awarded on a competitive basis in several categories. SOEA is comprised of 25 chapters on public and private campuses throughout Oklahoma. Its members are education majors who plan to enter the teaching profession. There are 46 SOEA members at Northwestern.
Northwestern SOEA members regularly attend fall and spring conferences with state speakers presenting current educational practices.
Dr. Beverly Warden, associate professor of education, and Dr. Martie Young, professor of education, serve as chapter advisers.
SOEA students are Robyn Walker, Alva junior; Enid seniors Kimberly Ring, Heather Miles and Jami Frazer; Sarah Bellamy, Cherokee senior; Madison Malone, Valley Center (Kan.) junior; Greg Uribe, Spring Valley (Ill.) senior; Jessica Hoffert, Woodward senior; Ann Marie Emmons, Ponca City senior; Susan Newman, Enid senior; Jerad Noble, Beaver senior; and Alicia Mitchell, Cherokee junior.
