Four youngsters enter 'Northwestern Star' program

Four girls from northwest Oklahoma have entered the “Northwestern Star” program in conjunction with the Miss Northwestern Pageant in Herod Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan.31.

The “Star” program is for girls between the ages of 6 and 11. One will be chosen at random to accompany Miss Northwestern to the 2009 Miss Oklahoma Pageant in Tulsa in June. The mentoring program is designed to expose girls to outstanding young women as role models.

Entrants are Liberty Bird, 8, daughter of Skeeter and Raye Lyn Bird, Alva; Sagelyn Budy, 6, daughter of Chad and Danielle Budy, Alva; Abbigale (Abbi) Hall, 6, daughter of Tara Hall and Gabe and Amanda Hall, Alva; Jada Retka, 7, daughter of Jeremy and Shelly Wingo, Waynoka.

Each of the girls will participate in the pageant rehearsal on Jan. 30, and then escort contestants on stage during the evening gown competition of the pageant on Jan. 31. The selected entrant will be registered into the “Oklahoma Stars” program and accompany Miss Northwestern to the state pageant.

Contestants for 2009 Miss Northwestern are Paige Fischer, Jet freshman; Jordan Gaskill, Waynoka junior; Audra Halliburton, Laverne freshman; Eileen Hess, Enid junior; Brandi Parker, Fort Supply senior; and Ashley Schmitz, Laverne freshman.
The women will compete in fitness and swimsuit, talent, evening gown and poise.

The contestants seek the title currently held by Ashlynn Frey, Lahoma sophomore.

Tickets at the door will be $10, and Northwestern students with a current ID card will be admitted free.
