Seven girls from northwest Oklahoma have entered the “Northwestern Star” program in conjunction with the Miss Northwestern Pageant in Herod Hall Auditorium at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24.
The “Star” program is for girls between the ages of 6 and 11. One will be chosen at random to accompany Miss Northwestern to the 2010 Miss Oklahoma Pageant. The mentoring program is designed to expose girls to outstanding young women as role models.
Entrants in this year’s Northwestern Star are Laney Stewart, 7, daughter of Chris and Tisha Stewart, Alva; Jaydan Coffman, daughter of Pamela and Bart Coffman, Alva; Aspen Warren, 8, daughter of Jett and Teri Warren, Alva; Chloe Lehr, 6, daughter of Andrea Crawford and Shane Lehr, Alva; Liberty Bird, 9, daughter of Skeeter and Raye Lyn Bird, Alva; Abbigale Hall, 7, daughter of Tara Hall and Gabe and Amanda Hall, Alva.
Each of the girls will participate in the pageant rehearsal and then escort contestants on stage during the evening gown portion of the pageant on Jan. 24. The selected winner will be registered into the “Oklahoma Stars” program and accompany Miss Northwestern to the state pageant.
Contestants for the 2010 Miss Northwestern Pageant are Brittany Meredith, Lawton freshman; Cali Crissup, Helena freshman; Crystal Newman, Waynoka freshman; Hannah Holmes, Wakita junior; Courtney Eck, Pratt, Kan., junior; and Ashley Schmitz, Laverne sophomore. The women will compete in fitness and swimsuit, talent, evening gown and poise.
The contestants seek the title currently held by Jordan Gaskill of Waynoka.
Tickets for the event are $8 in advance and may be purchased through each contestant, from the Candy Bouquet, 201 Oklahoma Blvd., or the Northwestern Business Office at (580) 327-8534. Tickets at the door will be $10, and Northwestern students with a current ID card will be admitted free.
