  • Salsa Tasting Contest, Mexican food to highlight Cinco de Mayo Fiesta May 1

    April 28, 2014 -- A Cinco de Mayo Fiesta sponsored by the Spanish Department will take place in Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Student Center Ballroom in Alva Thursday, May 1, and is open to the public.The event will kick off from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. with a Salsa Tasting Contest followed by an authentic Mexican food meal at 5 p.m. All proceeds from the evening’s events will go toward the Spanish Scholarship Fund.

  • Northwestern Spanish scholarship endowed with a little help from friends

    May 6, 2013 -- Thanks to the efforts of the Northwestern Spanish Club and the Department of English, Foreign Language and Humanities faculty, along with many friends and supporters, students seeking an undergraduate major or minor in Spanish at Northwestern Oklahoma State University can now receive scholarship assistance. Recently established, the Dorothy Day Spanish Scholarship was named for Dr. Dorothy Day, retired professor and founder of the Spanish program.

  • Foreign Language workshop held at Northwestern-Enid

    Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid recently played host to the Oklahoma Foreign language Teachers’ Association (OFLTA) “Winter Workshop.” Dr. Francisco Martinez, associate professor of Spanish and OFLTA Executive Board Member, helped coordinate the event.  Martinez (right) is shown checking in for the Winter Workshop.


  • Spanish class to celebrate Cinco de Mayo April 29

    On April 29, the Peninsular Spanish American Culture class at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will play host to a fundraiser in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, with its main goal to raise money for the Spanish Scholarship Fund. Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

  • Spanish honor society established at Northwestern

    Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, donated money to help establish a Spanish honor society on campus. Sigma Delta Pi National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica), will be available to Northwestern students who have an interest in Spanish. Angie Luthye (right), Enid senior and president of Sigma Tau Delta, and Dr. Francisco Martinez, assistant professor of Spanish and faculty coordinator, represent the two groups.
