Members of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Student Oklahoma Education Association (SOEA) club returned from the State Convention earlier this month with two highly esteemed awards.
The local chapter awards received were the Outstanding Local Website Award, judged on substance, creativity, and appearance; and the Outstanding Chapter Award, judged on membership, involvement at local, state, and national levels, activities, and service projects throughout the year. The awards were judged by a panel made up of OEA leadership, SOEA officers and advisers and a points system.
“There are many benefits to SOEA membership,” Dr. Martie Young, professor of education and SOEA chapter advisor, “Including professional development, liability insurance to protect teacher candidates while assigned to field experiences, professional publications, and rebates when members enter the teaching profession.”
The local SOEA chapter advisers are Young and Roxann Clark, instructor of education.
The students who attended the State Convention and received the chapter award are: Micah Keith, Perry senior; Irene Sanchez, Ponca City senior; Kaylee Lynch, Drummond senior; Karolyn Thompson, Alva senior; Carrie Vega, Enid senior; Larin Davis, Enid senior.
