SOEA award given to Dr. CunninghamFor the fifth year in a row, the Northwestern Oklahoma State University chapter of the Student Oklahoma Education Association (SOEA) received the “Outstanding State Chapter Award” during its annual conference. SOEA faculty sponsors Dr. Martie Young (second from left) and Roxann Clark (far left) present Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, and Dr. Bo Hannaford, dean of the School of Professional Studies, with the award, during a recent Division of Education faculty meeting.

Members of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Student Oklahoma Education Association (SOEA) returned with an award from the State Convention earlier this month in Broken Bow.

The local club received the “Outstanding State Chapter Award” for the fifth year in a row and also the ninth time in the last 10 years. The award is determined by membership, involvement at local, state, and national levels, activities, and service projects throughout the year.

“There are many benefits to SOEA membership,” Dr. Martie Young, professor of education and director of student teaching and field experience, said, “including professional development, liability insurance to protect teacher candidates while assigned to field experiences, professional publications, and rebates when members enter the teaching profession.”

The local SOEA chapter advisers are Young and Roxann Clark, instructor of education.

Students who attended the State Convention and received the chapter award were Christen Rogers, Enid junior; Kalli Gruber, Enid senior; Kayla Diel, Enid senior; Hilda Craig, Enid junior; Rachael Cunningham, Alva post-graduate; Taylor Bailey, Alva sophomore; Taylor Parrish, Enid senior; Elizabeth Mouser, Stigler junior; Nicole Marema, McPherson, Kansas, junior; Stephanie Eccles, Ponca City senior; and Elizabeth Shiever-Patterson, Newkirk senior.
