May 10, 2013 -- The Oklahoma Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-OK) has initiated a public education campaign to promote awareness and understanding of the social work profession. Two representatives from Northwestern Oklahoma State University have become members of the NASW-OK Public Education Campaign steering committee. Dr. Kylene Rehder, Department of Social Work chair and northwest branch chair; and Jason Thompson, Woodward senior, undergraduate student representative, will serve on the committee to increase social work awareness among other things.

March 11, 2013 -- The Department of Social Work at Northwestern Oklahoma State University is pleased to announce that Lacey Vaughan was named a 2013 National Association of Social Workers, Oklahoma (NASW-OK) Undergraduate Student of the Year.

February 15, 2013 -- Northwestern Oklahoma State University has been granted reaffirmation of accreditation for its social work program by the Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Accreditation was granted until February 2021.

February 6, 2013 -- The social work program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University has been awarded a $20,000 grant by the Child Welfare Professional Enhancement Program (CWPEP) to construct a Social Work Education and Training Center in Jesse Dunn 307 to be completed in the summer of 2013.

January 30, 2013 -- Field experience for social work students from Northwestern Oklahoma State University recently began for the spring semester. Ten social work majors entered practicum agencies within northwest Oklahoma to complete 420 contact hours, demonstrate the 43 practice behaviors and master the program’s 11 core competencies.

September 25, 2012 -- Social work students from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and area social work professionals will have the opportunity to hear Mary Jo Kinzie, executive director of the National Association of Social Workers–Oklahoma Chapter (NASW-OK); James Marks, executive director of the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers; and Sean Byrne, executive director of United Way of Enid, speak on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Northwestern-Enid, room 210.

September 4, 2012 -- Jason Thompson, Woodward junior at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, was elected as the undergraduate student representative to serve on the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers’ (NASW-OK) 2012-2013 Board of Directors.

April 24, 2012 -- Five seniors and six graduates from the Social Work program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University have been accepted into the advanced standing Masters of Social Work (MSW) program at the University of Oklahoma.

February 9, 2012 -- Sixteen senior social work majors at Northwestern Oklahoma State University started their Field Experience in January at practicum agencies within the northwest Oklahoma area. Field education is the signature pedagogy for social work degree programs, which connects theoretical and conceptual course curriculum with the professional practice setting.

December 2, 2011 - The Social Work Department at Northwestern Oklahoma State University partnered with the Oklahoma Geriatric Education Center and the Northwest Area Health Education Center to present “On the Road” in northwest Oklahoma, a workshop for healthcare professionals and others involved with elder care.

Kylene Rehder, assistant professor and chair of the Social Work Department, was elected as the Northwest Branch Chair, and Jennifer Griffin, Enid senior, was elected as the undergraduate student representative.

Students from the Social Work Department at Northwestern Oklahoma State University were busy March 29-31, gathering all knowledge possible at the National Association of Social Work (NASW) state conference during National Social Work Awareness month. The students were accompanied by Kylene Rehder, social work program director, and Rae Wilson, assistant professor of social work.

During the Commission on Accreditation’s (COA) February meeting, the COA voted to grant initial accreditation to the social work program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University until February 2013, a feat that took four years to achieve.
