Kelci Blackburn, Nardin freshman; Crystal Herber, alumna and former Northwestern News editor; Austin Prickett; Becky Burke, Oilton junior; Melanie Wilderman; and Joshua Perry, Pawhuska junior, brought home four awards from the Oklahoma Press Association convention last week.

Northwestern News staff members and Melanie Wilderman, faculty adviser, traveled to Midwest City last week to attend the Oklahoma Press Association Mid-Winter Convention. Receiving awards in four different categories, the newspaper staff at Northwestern Oklahoma State University received credit for their journalistic efforts.

Staff members received the following awards under the collegiate division: third in news content; second in advertising; third in editorial comment; and fourth in personal columns. Northwestern competed and placed against several schools across the state, including Oklahoma State University, Oral Roberts University, Rose State College, Oklahoma City University and Tulsa Community College.

“These experiences will help us to better the Northwestern News as a whole,” Austin Prickett, Pond Creek senior, said. “It was also nice to mingle around with various professional journalists from papers all over the state.”
“It doesn’t matter what size your university is, any student can do quality work.” Wilderman said.
