September 23, 2010

In celebrating National Hispanic Month, Northwestern Oklahoma State University welcomes the public to a presentation by Rodger Harris, folklife historian and storyteller from the Oklahoma State Historical Society.

Harris will present “Tierra de Mi Familia, Oklahoma,” which means “Oklahoma: Land of My Family,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, on the Alva, Enid and Woodward campuses. The presentation is free and will take place in the Industrial Education building, Room 129, on the Alva campus, in Room 220 on the Enid campus and in Room 147 on the Woodward campus.

Tierra de Mi Familia investigates both the culture and history of Oklahoma Latinos. Topics to be discussed include customs of Mexico, music of Mexico and Guatemala, Latino heritage of the American cowboy, dance of Mexico, Latino influence on clothing and Latinos and religion.
