Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Bachelor of Science in Accounting online degree program has been ranked among the top 50 in the nation by the Affordable Colleges Foundation. No other Oklahoma school earned a ranking on this list, and Northwestern’s program came in at 31.
Affordable Colleges Foundation (ACF), a leading resource for online learning and college affordability information, listed the top schools that offer students affordable, high-quality accounting programs combined with the flexibility of distance education.
"Accounting is a critical part of any business, and companies of all types continue to seek graduates from quality academic programs," saidDan Schuessler, founder and CEO of Affordable Colleges Foundation. "It’s important to recognize the colleges and programs that truly stand out, especially those going the extra mile to make online learning a priority.”
According to higher education research firm Eduventures, business-related degrees – including accounting – remain the most popular among college students, and that’s no different at Northwestern as it’s steadily one of the top majors.
"Students wishing to enter one of the fastest-growing career fields available have more educational options now than ever before,” Schuessler said. "The schools on our list not only have more online accounting degree programs than their peers, but also boast cost structures and student support that make a tremendous difference. They deserve to be recognized."
To create their list of the top online programs, ACF’s data analysts and higher education experts looked at such criteria as online tuition cost, number of online accounting programs, student-teacher ratio, six-year graduation rate, percentage of undergraduate students receiving aid and accreditation.
AffordableCollegesOnline.org also lists Northwestern as sixth out of 17 Oklahoma colleges it ranked in the category of Most Affordable Online Colleges in Oklahoma. Besides the Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree, Northwestern offers online bachelor’s degrees in business administration, applied arts and sciences in technical management and an RN-to-BSN program in nursing.
“We are pleased that Northwestern has received another high national ranking for affordability,” Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, said. “Northwestern is committed to providing quality online degree programs at a cost that is much more affordable than options provided by private and for-profit schools.”
Northwestern recently learned it was ranked fourth on a list of the top 30 Most Attractive Yet Affordable College Campuses across the nation compiled by AffordableSchools.net, and continues to be ranked among the region’s leading universities by “U.S. News & World Report” as having the nation’s most affordable on-campus living, and as a best value institution.
