New faculty begin 2009-2010 year at Northwestern

Ten new faculty members began working for Northwestern Oklahoma State University this school year. Of those 10, two work in the School of Arts and Sciences while the other eight work in the School of Professional Studies.

Short biographies of each faculty member from the School of Arts and Sciences are listed below:

Dr. Shawn Holliday has been appointed as the associate professor of English and chair of the English, Foreign Language and Humanities Department. Dr. Holliday holds a B.A. and M.A. from Marshall University (W. Va.) and a Ph.D. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has additional training in the Irish Gaelic language from Oideas Gael in Glencolmcille, Ireland. Dr. Holliday comes to Northwestern from Alice Lloyd College where he served as a member of the faculty and academic administrator. He also has teaching experience at Imperial College in London, England; Marshall University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Michael Stone is the new associate professor of music and director of bands. Dr. Stone has a Bachelor of Music and an M.A. degree from the University of Iowa. He earned a doctorate in musical arts from Central Pacific University. Dr. Stone has previous teaching experience at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Adirondack Community College (N.Y.), Manatee Community College (Fla.), South Texas College and Texas A&M International University.

Short biographies of each faculty member from the School of Arts and Sciences are listed below:

Ms. Ramona Bartlow is serving as instructor of nursing. Bartlow earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from West Texas A&M University. She joined the Northwestern faculty in January after serving as an adjunct instructor. She has professional nursing experience as Facility Manager of the Renal Care Group Dialysis Center, Unit Administrator at the Enid Dialysis Center, and Clinical Manager for Gambro Healthcare, all of Enid. She also has served as a nurse at various hospitals in Texas and Oklahoma.

Dr. Ralph Bourret has been appointed as assistant professor of business. Dr. Bourret earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, an M.B.A. from University of Dubuque (Iowa), and a Ph.D. in accounting from Mississippi State University. He previously served on the faculty at Eastern New Mexico University, Mississippi State University, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and Clarke College (Iowa).

Dr. James Breyley is serving as the associate professor of business. Dr. Breyley has a B.A. from Northwestern University (Ill.), an M.S. from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University. He has previous teaching and academic administration experience at the University of New England (Maine), Louisiana State University at Alexandria, St. Augustine’s College (N.C.), Mississippi Valley State University, Quincy University (Ill.), University of Nebraska-Kearney, Rockford College (Ill.), University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Mesa State College (Colo), Arizona State University, University of Wyoming and Indiana University-Southeast.

Justin Iske has been appointed as instructor of health and sports science education and assistant football coach. Iske has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Nebraska – Omaha. He has teaching and coaching experience at Fort Scott Community College (Kan.), Arizona Western College, Southwest Minnesota State University, Northern State University (S.D.), Midland Lutheran College (Neb.), and the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Dr. Karen Linstrum has been appointed as assistant professor of psychology. Dr. Linstrum has a B.S. from Baylor University (Texas), master’s degrees from the University of North Texas and Baylor, and a Ph.D. in counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She has previous professional experience from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Texas A & M International University, Campbell High School (Texas), and Brenham Independent School District (Texas).

Dr. Steven C. Palmer is serving as the associate professor of business and chair of the Business and E-Commerce Department. Dr. Palmer has a B.A., M.B.A and juris doctorate from Creighton University (Neb.). He has previously served on the faculty at Eastern New Mexico University, Louisiana State University-Alexandria, Louisiana State University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Creighton University. Dr. Palmer also has been engaged in private law practice and has worked as youth sports consultant.

Mr. Mark Sneary has been appointed as instructor of agriculture education. Sneary has a bachelor’s degree in vocational agriculture education from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He has served the last 22 years as an instructor and FFA adviser in the Garber Public Schools. He was named the Oklahoma Vocational Agriculture Teacher of the Year for 2008-09.

Gary Tucker, Jr. is serving as instructor of business. Tucker joined the Northwestern faculty in January. He has a B.S. from Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) and an M.B.A. from Oklahoma Christian University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in marketing from Anderson University (Ind.). He previously served as business department chair at Oklahoma City Community College and in managerial positions at various businesses in the Oklahoma City area.
