New categories added, entry deadline Feb. 25 for 12th annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show

Members of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) have added six new categories to the 12th annual art show set for March 8-27 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus.

Entry registration is now open to all Northwestern students, employees, retired employees and alumni and closes Feb. 25. An online form is available at

For those who prefer to have a printed version of the entry form, a link to a Word file of the entry form also is available at the provided link. The Word form can be filled out and emailed to Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, at It also may be printed out and mailed to Case or taken to her office in Fine Arts 211. Paper entry forms are available at the front desk in the Alva campus library, in the Enid campus library, in the Woodward campus business office or in Case’s office.

All entered art pieces should be delivered to the Alva campus Library Monday through Wednesday, March 2-4, before 4:30 p.m. Only those individuals who have gained permission will be allowed to bring artwork after the deadline. No more than two items per category may be entered.

The new categories include three in the Studio Art division where the Paintings category has been expanded to Oil Paintings, Acrylic Paintings and Watercolor/Other Paintings. Three categories also have been added in the Photography division with Weather, Still Life and a special category of Selfie.

“Almost everyone has taken a selfie now days, so we’re looking forward to a lot of creative entries,” Case said. “We thought having this special category would be a good way to get more people involved in our show. I can’t wait to see what is entered.”

More than $800 in prize money is available for the winning pieces entered by students. All winning entries will receive ribbons depicting first through third place. Each student division winner will receive a ribbon and a cash prize, and a student Best of Show also will be selected, earning a ribbon and cash prize.

All current and retired employees and alumni will compete against each other and will receive ribbons as category, division and Best of Show prizes.

Everyone entered in the art show will be eligible for the People’s Choice ribbon and $50 cash prize. The People’s Choice award is determined by those who view the art show and submit votes before leaving.

All artwork submitted to the show must be made by the individual entering the piece. No kits are allowed. If artwork has been shown in an NAS art show before, it may not be submitted again. Artwork must be appropriate according to university standards.

Winning art entries are eligible to be on display at a community art show to take place in downtown Alva at Murrow’s FrameArt on Friday, April 3, during the First Friday Art Walk activities, 6 to 8 p.m.

“Members of the Art Society have been participating in several fundraisers to provide the more than $1,000 in funds necessary to make this show a reality each year,” Case said. “We thank those of you who have supported us in our efforts.

“We have a small group, and the members work so hard throughout the year to make this show happen so we can showcase the talents and creativity of our campus communities,” Case added. “We hope to see several entries from our students at all campus locations, as well as from our talented employees, retired employees and alumni.”
