NWOSU Art Society bringing Holiday Store for kids to Alva, photos with Santa also planned for Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012!
A holiday gift store just for kids – that’s what the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) members have planned for Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Center Ranger Room.
Photos with Santa also are planned that day, and NAS members welcome the young and not-so young to take part.
“The store is being offered to the children in Alva and the surrounding communities as more of a community service than a fundraiser, NAS sponsor Angelia Case said. “It’s a way for the kids to purchase holiday gifts for loved ones, friends and even pets without having to spend a lot of money, so this even helps out the parents’ and family’s pocketbooks.”
The store will allow the children to experience the thrill of “secretly” buying gifts, while benefitting from the practical lessons of budgeting, handling money and making decisions. NAS members encourage parents and families to help their children make a list of the people whose gifts need to be purchased, along with the approximate amount of money budgeted for each gift.
Parents and family members are welcome to accompany their kids through the store if they so choose, but to keep the gifts a surprise until they’re opened, NAS members will be available to help each child with their list as they go through and make their selections.
Case said a wide variety of gift items will be available for purchase ranging in price from about 50 cents to no more than $20. Gift items will include such things as toys, jewelry, specially made items for mom, dad, grandma and grandpa, along with athletics items from sporting teams in the region.
“With some of the items we’ll have in the store, we may have more than just children wanting to make a few purchases, and we won’t mind at all,” Case said.
Case said the other activity taking place while the store is open is photos with Santa. Anyone, regardless of age, who’d like to have their photo taken is welcome. Single or group photos taken with or without Santa will be available.
“We’re offering these photos as an inexpensive way for people to have a nice photo of themselves, to give as gifts or to make into holiday cards,” Case said.
She explained that for a flat fee of $5 each, the original digital file will be provided for unlimited use. All that will be needed is an email address or jump drive at the time the photo(s) is taken, along with payment.
“If people would like for us to create a holiday card for them using their photo, then each design chosen is an additional $5,” Case said.
