Music Program

The Department of Fine Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Stone as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands. 

Born in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Dr. Stone has been a band and orchestra director for more than 25 years.  He has taught and performed in the states of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, California, Texas, and internationally in Europe and Japan.  His last position was as Director of Bands, Assistant Professor of Music, at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas.

Dr. Stone is an active clinician, adjudicator, and conductor at many state and region festivals.  He is in high demand across the nation and is also an accomplished composer and arranger.  His most recent challenge was a band arrangement of the famous Toccata movement from the Widor, Organ Symphony, No. 5.  The arrangement is currently under review by the U.S. Army Field Band, Washington D.C.

Dr. Stone received his Bachelor of Music and Masters Degree from the University of Iowa, started work toward his Doctorate at the University of Hartford, Hartt School of Music, and received his DMA from Central Pacific University in Honolulu, Hawaii.
