Melanie Wilderman joined the Northwestern faculty as a mass communication instructor and adviser to the Northwestern News in August 2005 after three semesters teaching journalism and English classes as adjunct faculty at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma City Community College. She received her B.A. and M.A., both in journalism, from the University of Oklahoma and is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. Wilderman has reporting, editing and design experience in newspaper and additional editorial experience with the University of Oklahoma Press. She also contributes freelance work to various magazines and newspapers. Wilderman is originally from Choctaw, Okla., and enjoys water skiing, reading and taking her beagle for walks.

She and her husband Ted live in Alva.
