Miss Northwestern 2012
Carrie Bowers

Northwestern sophomore, Carrie Bowers, is the 2012 Miss Northwestern. She was raised in the small town of Cherokee, Okla. Her parents are Jack and Carol Bowers, and she has two sisters Sabrina and Blythe and one brother Brent.  Also, Sabrina, who is married to Dallas, has 3 little ones - Chism (6 yrs. old), Colby (4 yrs. old) and Kenzie (8 months old).  Blythe, who is married to Curtis, has a daughter, Autumn (10 months).

Bowers enjoys watching her nephews and nieces grow up and their activities keep her busy. Bowers loves attending Northwestern and enjoys the people and the community.

“Being from a small community myself, I know how much the people of the community rely on each other for support.  The town of Alva could not be more supportive of the University.  Northwestern is high-end education with a small town atmosphere and community.  It is a hidden treasure."

As far as class time is concerned, she knows that studies come before anything.  She is currently working on class to qualify her to apply for the nursing program at Northwestern in the spring of 2013.  Along with classes, Bowers is involved in National Scholar Ambassadors, Student Government and Young College Republicans.

Bowers' platform is "Self-Worth and Self-Confidence in Young Women." She plans to pedal her solution for obtaining both self-worth and self-confidence to young women struggling to find it themselves. Traveling to promote her platform by visiting middle schools and high schools in Oklahoma to teach the importance of 'growing to love yourself' and 'having control over your self-worth,’ Bowers will work hard to encourage young women to take control of their self-worth and find confidence along the way.
