Northwestern nursing students to assist with Marshallese Women's and Children Health Fair

April 3, 2009

Nursing students at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will assist the Marshallese Health Fair set for April 9, from 2:30 - 5 p.m., at the First Marshallese Assembly of God Church in Enid. This event is open to women and children in the Marshallese community.

Northwestern nursing students will be there along with the Garfield County Health Department. They will speak to the Marshallese community about breast feeding, diabetes, breast cancer, infection control, women’s cardiac issues, body mass index and healthy weight, Sherrie Craig, instructor of nursing, said.

The Health Department will accommodate the needs of childhood immunizations and health and car seat education. The Health Department asks that the Marshallese community bring children’s immunization records so they can better assist their needs.

Northwestern students also will be working with the Health Department to provide health screenings for the community.

For questions about the Health Fair, contact Craig at (580) 213-3188 or Teresa Bailey at the Health Department at (580) 233-0650.

This event is sponsored by the Metropolitan Health Planning Committee.
