Local students receive top honor of four-year academic scholarship through Northwestern

August 2, 2016

Two local students have been chosen to receive a top honor scholarship, the Oklahoma Academic Scholar Award, through Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

Oakleigh Nickel, from Timberlake High School in Helena, and Capri Gahr, from Aline-Cleo High School in Aline, will receive the four-year academic award starting in the fall.

Nickel and Gahr will have up to 16 hours of tuition paid per semester, semi-private room and $2,000 each year for four years as long as they maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average (CGPA).

In order to qualify for the Oklahoma Academic Scholar Award, the applicant must have a 3.8 high school CGPA, 30 ACT Composite on the national test and be in the top 4 percent or rank first or second in their graduating class.

“These students were chosen because of their high academic standing in high school and their potential to achieve great things at Northwestern,” Calleb Mosburg, dean of student affairs and enrollment management, said. “These are two proven leaders in their respective high schools, and Northwestern is excited to welcome them as Rangers this fall.”
