Policy Changes Regarding Fines and Lost Books
Important changes have been made to Northwestern Libraries’ fine and lost book policies. Beginning January 1, 2009, fines will no longer be levied against books on a day-by-day basis. Instead, items which are 30 days overdue will be considered lost. At this point either a replacement price for the item(s) will be determined by the libraries' staff or a default price of $25.00 will be levied for each lost item. If the item(s) is returned within 30 days of the date the bill was paid, the patron may request that the replacement cost be refunded. All patrons who have outstanding bills will be blocked from checking out materials, and a hold will be placed on their account in the Business Office. This can prevent you from enrolling, receiving a copy of your grades, or acquiring a copy of your transcript even several years later! To inquire about holds on your account, please contact either library.
